Description:Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS) is a national Old Age Pension Scheme in India.It was launched by Ministry of Rural Development. All persons of 60 years and above (revised downwards from 65 in 2011) and belonging to below the poverty line category according to the criteria prescribed by the Government of India time to time, are eligible to be a beneficiary of the scheme.
Eligibility Criteria:
i. The proposed beneficiary shall be from BPL family.
ii. He/she shall be a local resident of the district.
iii. He/she are not covered under any other Pension Scheme.
- Old age persons, both male and female, who are 65 years of age or above and are destitute (with little or no means of subsistence and no family or relative to depend upon)
Sanctioning Authority:
Rural
The MPDO is the sanctioning authority for all pensions, in favour of eligible
persons recommended by the Gram Sabha.
Urban
The Municipal Commissioner is the sanctioning authority in respect of all
pensions, in favour of eligible persons recommended by the Municipal
Ward Sabha.
